| Frequently
Asked Questions
What should
my child wear for the race?
Most children are comfortable racing in a bathing suit with
a tshirt and/or shorts pulled over during transition. Avoid
very loose or baggy clothing as it may get in the way on the
bike portion of the race. Moisture-wicking fabrics (polyester-blends
rather than 100% cotton) are generally the most comfortable.
Running shoes are fine for both the bike and run portion of
the race.
What additional
gear might be useful?
Swim caps are provided to all participants in the race packet
and are required. Goggles are not required during the swim,
but most children find them beneficial.
ANSI/SNELL or ASTM approved helmets are required for the
bike portion.
A race number belt is useful for wearing the required race
bib during the bike & run portions. Alternatively, the
bib may be attached to a tshirt with safety pins.
What type of
bike should my child use?
Participants may use any type of bike (mountain, BMX, road,
etc,) as long as the bike is properly fitted to the athlete.
This means that he or she must be able to straddle the top
tube with both feet flat on the ground. Race sponsor Bicycle
Heaven is offering free bike safety inspections and discounted
tune-ups for all participants.
