Triathlon
Rules
All USAT-sanctioned triathlons must follow a stringent set
of rules and regulations in order to ensure a safe, fair,
and fun experience for all participants. Parents, please review
these rules with your children well ahead of time so that
there are no surprises on race weekend!
- All participants' parents must sign a waiver at packet
pickup and purchase either a one day or annunal membership
to USA Triathlon.
- Shoes must be worn for both the bike and run portions.
- ANSI/SNELL or ASTM approved helmets are required for the
bike portion. The helmet must be buckled before the athlete
removes the bike from the rack in the transition area and
must remain buckled until the bike is returned to the rack.
- Bikes must be properly fitted (athlete must be able to
straddle top tube with both feet flat on the ground) and
inspected for safety prior to the race. Race sponsor Bicycle
Heaven is offering free bike safety inspections for
all participants.
- No outside assistance may be provided during the race
except by race or medical personnel.
- No headphones, radios, MP3 players, etc. are allowed during
the race.
- Race numbers must be visible at all times during the race.
Each athlete will be provided with a numbered swim cap (to
be worn during the swim), two numbered stickers (one for
the bike helmet and one for the bike frame) and one race
number bib (to be worn during the run).
- Only race participants are allowed in the transition area
once the race has begun. Parents and friends may not enter
the transition area to assist athletes. Race volunteers
will be available to help as needed.
- Participants may not ride their bicycles in the transition
area. Bikes must be mounted and dismounted at the exit and
entrance to the transition area.
- Athletes must stay to the right at all times on the bike
course unless in the immediate act of passing another cyclist.
Riders should always pass on the left and alert other cyclists
before passing (ie by calling out "on your left").
- No flotation devices (kickboards, fins, floaties, etc.)
are permitted during the swim. Athletes may stand on the
bottom of the pool, hang on the wall or the lane line to
rest if needed. Lifeguards will be available at all times.
- Inappopriate or un-sportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated
from participants, parents, or spectators. Please remember
that we are all here to have a good time and respect everyone
on the race course.
- All rules and their enforcement are subject to the interpretation
of the race officials, whose decisions will be final.
