 Fabric Glossary
Technical Fabric Components
Cotton Soft, comfortable, and also holds moisture. A great quality in a bath towel, but not in running apparel. Cotton can absorb 25 times its weight in water, which translates to as much as 2 pounds of sweat in your t-shirt by the end of your run. Opt for cotton blends to increase moisture-wicking properties. [More info]
Nylon Synthetic material that is strong, elastic, lightweight, and has less than half the moisture absorption of cotton. [More info]
Polyester

Man-made fiber that is strong, resistant to most chemicals, quick-drying, and holds its shape. In swimwear, polyester is chlorine-resistant and provides optimal durability for training suits, but has less give than nylon. In running apparel, polyester is commonly found in the form of CoolMax®, which is a DuPont brand. [More info]

Spandex

Elastic fiber that allows fabrics to be streched but then spring back to their original shape. Most commonly known under the trade name Lycra®, which is branded by DuPont. [More info]

Most technical fabrics are made from combinations of the above fibers. Manufacturers use different trade names, but the underlying components are similar. Across the industry, companies are working to make manufactured fabrics softer and smoother in order to provide both technology and comfort.

A recent advance in the technical fabric industry is the development of microfibers. By making the filaments substantially finer than in the conventional versions, manufacturers are able to maintain the properties of each fiber type, but with lighter weight and a silkier hand. In addition, fabrics made from microfibers are naturally more breathable and water-resistant due to the spacing of the tightly-packed filaments.

Manufacturer Technology
Arena Stretch 150 Even chlorine can't hinder the performance of Arena Stretch 150. In fact, there is practically no degradation of the elastic recovery in the presence of chlorine or sunlight with this exclusive Arena fabric. Composed of 55% "P.B.T." and 45% polyester, Arena Stretch 150 is extremely elastic both horizontally and vertically providing excellent recovery and a fabric that will not lose its shape. Arena Stretch 150 is the perfect choice for both athletes and fitness swimmers who spend several hours a week in the pool. Arena Stretch 150 equals durability.
Arena 80/20 Outstanding comfort and fit is found in Arena 80/20 fabric. A blend of nylon (80%) and elastaine (20%), this fabric has excellent stretch memory and weighs only 190gm/m2. 80/20 has a very soft hand and dries in a very short time.
EQ Polyester Our new polyester fabric is the latest in high performance technology in chlorine resistant material. This is the ultimate compliment to swimwear. Not only is the fabric chlorine resistant but it also has the following features:
* 50+ UV Protection (relaxed and dry)
* Excellent stretch recovery
* Shape retention
* Low absorbency and quick drying
* Longer lasting colors

Hind Drylite Automatically activated when your body heats up, DryLite is a tri-component fabric; a combination of polyester which rejects water, a technologically advanced hydro-nylon which absorbs water to the outside and Lycra® spandex for stretch and great fit.
76% nylon/12% polyester/12% Lycra
Hind Drylete3 The original moisture managing fabric is synonymous with Hind. Striving for continuous innovation, Hind unveils its third-generation DryLete, which is superior in three ways: Keeps you drier. Independent lab results prove the blend of denier-differential nylons pull and spread moisture 20% faster. Keeps you warmer. Tests also prove that the thermal retention of Drylete3 is even higher than the original. Softer hand. Now even more comfortable to the skin.
67% nylon/26% polyester/7% Lycra
Hind Hydralite This soft lightweight micro mesh has a higher level of snag and pull resistance than its predecessors. Micro-polyester yarns against the skin and non-micro yarns on the face create a push-pull effect with your body's moisture. An additional Hydrotech finish accelerates evaporation. HydraLite is lightly sueded, making it soft against the skin.
100% polyester
Hind Hydrator Utilizing two different surface textures, this innovative micro fiber is the ultimate in moisture-management technology. The smooth inner surface absorbs and pushes moisture to the breathable open texture of the outer surface for rapid evaporation.
100% polyester

Hind Microlite

This micro-filament, polyester woven material is compacted so tightly it remains windproof yet breathable while repelling water. This easy-care fabric is wrinkle resistant, extremely lightweight, quiet and extremely compatible.
100% polyester
